Celebrating Gender Diversity
in Woodworking

Our commitment
Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea: to bridge the gender gap in heritage woodworking. In our sector survey of 2023 we discovered that just 8.5% of manufacturing roles are held by women, trans and non-binary individuals. With the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Conran Foundation, The Mila Charitable Trust, Benchmark Furniture Ltd, and Vastern Timber Ltd, we are committed to inspire and empower makers from all genders, especially those often overlooked. We believe everyone deserves a chance to explore a fulfilling career in the heritage woodworking and furniture industries. By promoting role models, collaborating with industry leaders, and advocating for sustainability, we’re reshaping the future of woodworking into a vibrant and inclusive community.

“It is fantastic to feel welcome in the wood workshop, especially as a female and have the great opportunity to meet same minded people who love working with wood but also would like to understand how to sustainably approach the connection between forest and us.”
– Tereza Kupčíková (sylva Summer school 2024)

Empowering diverse makers alongside working with industry is key to transforming the heritage woodworking sector for everyone.
